LIV Village provides holistic residential care for orphaned and vulnerable children to rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader, and release a star. We place vulnerable, parentless children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, and are care for and nurtured. We want these children to grow up equipped with essential moral values and life skills to be a generation that will influence positive change within South Africa, our continent, and the world.

LIV Village was founded by Tich and Joan Smith with the first foster mothers and children moving onto the village in Verulam, Durban on 09 August 2011. We are very excited that LIV has expanded by merging with an orphanage in Lanseria, now known as LIV Lanseria, and has also taken over operations for Thokomala Orphan Care Organisation, now LIV Thokomala. This consists of 18 foster care homes across the country where we look after orphaned and vulnerable children within their communities. LIV is planning to continue expanding in the future to meet the needs of South Africa and world. We are continually looking for partners to help make this vision a reality so homes for these children can be built across the country.

LIV has been supported by the Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day for the past two years. Both years this money went towards our LIV2Educate programme, which covers the cost to educate a child at LIV School. This on-site school helps us meet our children’s specific needs and allows them to learn at their own pace in smaller classes where teachers can give more individual attention to each child in the class. The funds received were allocated towards the education of specific children on the village with the remainder being allocated towards teachers’ salaries.

We are extremely grateful for the funding we have received from NSACGD and how it has helped LIV provide children with a good education that will assist them in living out their full potential and making an impact in the world. In 2018, LIV released its first matriculants from LIV School. All six passed their exams successfully and have started the next exciting chapter in their lives by doing internships and tertiary education. NSACGD, together with other donors, have played a pivotal role in this success story.
